Overview

Located on شارع البر in the heart of Makkah, Charminar Hyderabadi Indian Restaurant offers a genuine taste of Indian heritage, specializing in Hyderabadi cuisine. With a menu that highlights classic dishes such as the iconic Hyderabadi Biryani, Chicken 65, and Mutton Rogan Josh, this eatery captures the rich flavors and aromatic spices synonymous with South Indian and Mughlai traditions.

The standout dishes, notably the biryani and Chicken 65, exhibit bold, well-balanced taste profiles that reflect careful preparation and authentic recipes. Patrons often praise the Chicken Khorma for its smooth, velvety gravy, perfectly paired with traditional breads like Roomali and Tandoori Roti. The inclusion of regional snacks and beverages, such as Pani Puri, Masala Dosa, and Indian-style chai, enriches the culinary experience, catering to a range of preferences from hearty meals to light bites.

Charminar’s ambiance leans towards modest and functional, with seating arrangements suitable for families available upstairs and an open seating area outside, popular for savoring tea and desserts like Double ka Meeta. While some visitors note that the atmosphere could benefit from enhanced cleanliness and warmth, the restaurant’s attentive staff, including notable hospitality from team members like Abdul Sattar and cashier Mr. Amin, contribute positively to the overall experience.

The establishment is a fitting destination for devotees and travelers seeking affordable, flavorful Indian fare during their stay in Makkah. It particularly appeals to those who appreciate traditional Hyderabadi dishes served with respectful and prompt service. Though occasional inconsistencies in presentation and crowding during peak hours are mentioned, the modest decor and straightforward dining setup seem geared more towards practical, no-frills enjoyment rather than upscale dining.

Charminar Hyderabadi Indian Restaurant’s strength lies in its authentic taste and cultural connection to Hyderabad’s culinary heritage. The menu’s diverse offerings—from rich gravies to crispy snacks and hearty rice dishes—combined with its convenient location and reasonable pricing, make it a go-to choice for both local residents and visitors seeking an immersive Indian dining experience in Makkah.

Visited Charminar restaurant for second time. It was loaded as usual. But todays menu was worth a visit. Tried chkn korma with roomali roti. Nice rich smooth gravy. Next was gosht Kali mirch ( dry) beef. Very good. Juicy well cooked beef chunks. Dudi dalcha with Rice. That was good but afcus not as flavourful as beef/ mutton dalcha. Every thing was over whelming and definitely did Surprise me. Couldn't finish it all by myself. Later tried their sweet dish. Double ka Meeta. Not really authentic and rich but not bad for a large bowl @ 6 riyals. Over all a happy ending with Indian style tea, out in the open ,outside the restaurant. My total bill was 43 riyals+ tip 3 riyals for good service. Which actually is really worth it, when two persons are sharing. The above was just too much for me and couldn't finish it all. So dear Umrah & Hajj visitors, do try CHARMINAR RESTAURANT @ Aziziya south. Surely you will feast on it, with good food for reasonable prices. MY 2 ND VISIT TODAY 2/04/2024 Just couldn't resist going back to Charminar restaurant. My son Rehan , arrived today at Makkah and how could I not take him to Charminar for his first dinner iftiyar. We ordered Green chicken, roomali roti, tandoori roti, beef Kali mirch, Rice & dal. All was superb. The green chicken texture are really beautiful. Rich & flavourful. Did request the service staff for green chillies as we Indian's normally feast on spicy cuisine. My requests were fulfilled by Abdul Sattar, one of the service staff's serving us. What more could we want. A lovely meal and respectful service. Made it a point to meet the owner's (from Hyderabad) and compliment them for their cuisine. A repeat double ka meeta & chai outside in their open sitout.

Charminar offers a basic dining experience that might suit bachelors looking for a quick Indian meal, but it falls short in several key areas. The food quality needs significant improvement in taste, freshness, and presentation. The atmosphere lacks warmth and cleanliness, and the service can feel rushed and inattentive at times. Overall, it’s not the best option for families or those seeking a comfortable dine-in experience. With some effort in upgrading the food, service, and ambiance, it has the potential to be much better.

Always try Irani Chai....my favorite place. seeking a reliable dining option in Mecca, I visited Charminar Hyderabadi Indian Restaurant, known for its authentic Hyderabadi cuisine. The establishment offers a commendable selection of dishes, with the biryani and chicken 65 being particularly noteworthy for their robust flavors, though occasional inconsistencies in taste were reported. The service, led by attentive staff such as Mr. Abdul Sattar, is professional, albeit slower during peak hours due to limited seating capacity. The ambiance is modest, better suited for takeaways, with family seating available upstairs; however, hygiene standards could be improved, as some patrons noted unclean plates. Priced affordably compared to other local restaurants, it appeals to budget-conscious diners. Its single location in Aziziya is convenient, though additional branches would enhance accessibility. I recommend visiting during off-peak hours for a fresher and more pleasant dining experience.

This restaurant has filled a much-needed gap for Hyderabadi and South Asian travelers in the area. I didn’t get a chance to try their food yet, but just the aroma coming from the kitchen was purely Hyderabadi — rich, flavorful, and nostalgic. I did try their Hyderabadi tea, and it was excellent — strong, perfectly spiced, and just the kind of refreshment a traveler needs. It’s a great relief to find authentic tea like this when you're away from home. If you’re in the area and craving a proper Hyderabadi chai, this place is a must-visit. There are a few other Hyderabadi restaurants in the same lane, but I haven’t had the chance to visit them yet.

Very good food, loved the Hyderabadi dishes. They do some special dishes on Friday and Saturday. Don't forget to order Chicken 65 , roomali Rooti ( thin flat bread) and Hyderabadi lamb biryani, these items were very good.
